Hadley was shocked, but pleasantly surprised when the Doctor's lips pressed into hers. It was honestly the last thing she had ever expected to happen. Not only was he awkward, he wasn't human, and she didn't think he'd pick up on the emotions she had been tossing around inside of her. It seems he had, though, and the kiss didn't feel all to forced on his part either. He seemed to almost even enjoy it.

When they popped up on the screen she knew she was blushing madly. If the kiss was a shock, this was an even bigger one. She couldn't believe what was going on. She was in Time Square, kissing a "Time Lord", and 5 years in the past. This, she realized, is exactly what she had been searching for all these years. She wanted new, happy, and exciting. That's exactly what this was. She only hoped he wouldn't make her go home. She only hoped he wouldn't leave her behind.

When their lips pulled apart she just stared at him. She could only imagine how stupid the expression on her face must have looked.

"Heh...Wow." She mentally kicked herself.

Heh...Wow? Really?

The doctor gazed down at Hadley, not entirely sure of what he was thinking at the moment. Which was somewhat of a big deal for him, he was always thinking something. He twisted his lips as he heard her speak and wanted to say something, but couldn't come up with words to say. He sighed, wanting to kick himself in the ass but knew full well that he would just look like a moron.

And it wouldn't get the job done anyhow...

He released Hadley, stretched out his back and shook out his arms. When he was finished, he sighed cheerfully and returned his attention to her.

"Well then! Are we ready to head back now?" His smile was once again placed on his face, ears pink and eyes sparkling.

When the Doctor had let Hadley go, her heart sank into her stomach. She had a large feeling that something about the kiss had effected him in a way he far from wanted it to. She bit down on her bottom lip sadly, hoping he didn't notice her drop in attitude. She was happy just moments before, so very happy to have experienced what every girl wants on New Years, and now she was feeling anxious and sad. Getting out of there seemed like the best idea...for both of them. She had always been a self conscious girl, thinking that no one wanted to be around her, and she was just continuing to let her low self esteem eat at her.

"Yeah, we should probably head out now..." She nodded her head.

She didn't look up at him, only lead the way back toward the TARDIS. She didn't want him to see anything in her eyes that might give away what she was feeling. She didn't want him to take pity on her, like so many people did, and find some way to falsely attempt to make her feel better. She always felt pathetic when people tried to do that.

"I guess you'll be taking me home now?" She whispered as they reached the door of the TARDIS, still avoiding looking him in the face.

The key had just turned to open the TARDIS door when the doctor heard those words he was dreading to hear. She was asking to go home. His shoulders hunched, mood quickly plummeting down into the dirt. He had hoped this had been enough to make her want to stay around. He hated admitting it to himself, but he was lonely.

He turned to her then, disappointment evident in his eyes and the tone in his voice.

"If you want to go, yes. I will take you home now."

He hadn't meant for the last part to come off as biting, but even he could tell that it had. He sighed, turning on his heel and entering the ship. He scratched the top of his head with both palms of his hands, wondering what to do now. Wondering if there was a way to convince her to stay.

Hadley was shocked to hear the tone that had entered his voice. A pang of hurt washed through her body and it took all that she had not to turn on her heel and walk away from the TARDIS. If she did that she'd be stuck, though. She'd be stuck in the year 2000 and she'd disappear in her own time. She walked, slowly and cautiously, in the TARDIS and shut the door tightly behind her. She didn't walk up to him, and didn't look at him, because she was afraid what he might say or how he might look at her.

"I guess if you don't want me here I'll go then..." She said, barely loud enough for him to hear. "I wouldn't want to get in your way..."

She turned her back on him, ashamed of herself. Why would she think for even a moment that he wanted her to travel with him? They were only here because they had to escape those freakish things that were trying to kill her. She'd probably get home, they'd find her, and they'd finish the job. This would be a temporary get away...

I'm so stupid...

Eyes wide with shock, the doctor quickly approached Hadley, trying to gather the words to say. He hoped he would say them correctly, and not in a way that would make her want to leave.

"No. Travel with me."

Eh... I suppose that's direct enough.

He hadn't expected those exact words to burst through his mouth, but he was certain it would make her know he wanted her around. And he did, badly. She was delightful company, aside from her present mood. But he was half certain that was more or less his own doing.

"Please..."

Hadley was taken by surprise. He wanted her to come with him? Moments ago it had seemed like he would love to get rid of her. Here he was demanding and then almost pleading for her to come along. He was alone, she noted, which meant he was probably very lonely traveling through space and time. He saw a lot of people, she supposed, but she was sure he didn't get to see any of them for long. No one to truly spend time with and truly be yourself around.

"Okay..." She turned around and forced a small smile onto her face, but her eyes probably deceived her. "I'll come with you."

She wanted to reach out, to hug him, but she refrained. The kiss had only happened because of the New Year being rung in. He did it for her. They didn't know each other, there were no feelings there, and that was that. She was attracted to him, sure. She loved his goofy smile, he magnificent ears, and his crooked nose, but that wasn't enough to constitute feelings. No, maybe she was just lonely too... Maybe she needed him. Maybe they needed each other.

The doctor clapped his hands together, laughing as he did and grabbed her by the shoulders.

"That's fantastic!"

The energy coming from him at that moment was enough to fuel a ship for a voyage in itself. He was beaming from ear to ear, his nose crinkled in the excitement as well. He all but danced back to the control panel and began to fiddle with a few buttons and switches alongside it.

"So, where to now, Hadley? I can take you onto the Milky Way, if you'd like? Go to the lovely lands of Apalauchia, it's apparently voted Number Two in the Top Ten Destinations for The Discerning Space Traveller! Lovely place it is, though I'm sure the pictures don't actually do it any justice."

He scratched his head and yanked on his nose a bit to relieve an itch that had popped up there as well. Hands secured on his waist, and eyes asserted on Hadley, he awaited her instruction.

Hadley's fear and sadness melted away with the Doctor's joy. He was so happy to have her come along. Far more happy than she ever could have expected. She felt wanted, for once, and it warmed her insides. She wasn't sure what planet he was talking about, but it sounded like a good enough idea to her. As long as they could get out and see amazing places, together above all else, then she would be happy.

"That place sounds great, Doctor." She winked at him, walking up to be closer to him. "I'd really like to see anywhere and everywhere, as long as it isn't Glasgow in 2005."

She smiled, huge and genuine, and let her eyes meet his own. This was going to be the best thing to ever happen to her, the Doctor. She could just feel it in her bones. He was going to be the one to finally make her life worth living. He would show her all that she had been missing.

The doctor continued to grin, pleased that the girl's attitude had changed so drastically, and in a good way. He plugged in the necessary coordinates and time frame, knowing it would need to be a bit in the future from now to be at the planet's peak of beauty. He turned to Hadley then, a smirk now on his face.

"Hang on then. Ha HAAA!"

The TARDIS purred once again and gave a shudder as they disappeared into the sky, twirling as they traveled through a few hundred years, and scaled millions upon millions of miles from the Earth. He moved around her body as he had to hit certain things with his feet, bonk several buttons and flip many switches. He chuckled at the girl, enjoying every moment of the travel.

Several moments later, they were on the ground and he was leading her out of the door. When they touched the lush ground with their own feet, he gestured to the open meadows around him.

"This, my lovely girl, is Apalapucia."

The skies were a wonderful shade of purple, and it was the cleanest air a being would ever breathe. Many spires were near and even more in the far distance. He took in the atmosphere, admiring the view.

Hadley was taken by surprise at how beautiful everything around them was. She had never seen anything quite like it. She took a deep breath, enjoying the fresh air. She reached out and grabbed the Doctor's hand, not noticing that she was doing so. Maybe it was the beauty of the place or the beauty of the man. Who knew?

"This is so...amazing." She let her eyes scan the scenery. "I can't believe we're on another planet..."

She looked up at the Doctor adoringly. How had she gotten so lucky? So many people were at home working their jobs or sitting in their classes and she was traveling all over the universe and through time with a great looking and absolutely amazing alien man.

The doctor found himself gazing down at the hand that had just grabbed his, hardly paying attention to the voice that was coming from the same body. It seemed alien to him. He laughed at the thought for a moment before coming back to reality.

"It truly is. I can see now that the pictures really didn't do it-... Hang on."

Behind him, he heard his TARDIS humming at him, beckoning to come back inside. He tried to ignore it, but when it started to leave on its own, he knew it was time to go.

"Hey! Don't you dare!"

He ran back inside, quickly turning to yell back at Hadley.

"Hadley! Back inside! Now!"

He approached the control panel and read where the TARDIS was taking them. The navigation screen read "London, England, 2005". He frowned to himself, full well knowing it wasn't what he had intended at all.

"Well, Hadley, it appears that we are going to London... Have you ever been there?"

The TARDIS rocked them and he immediately grabbed onto a post that was behind him, no longer having control of his ship.

"You'd best grab something. She's got a mind of her own right now."

Hadley rushed back into the TARDIS, closed the doors tightly, and listened to the Doctor's instructions. She grabbed onto a pole near to his own, held on tightly, and tried not to let her disappointment show. She was really looking forward to being in that beautiful place. She was also looking forward to spending time there with him. She wanted to ask him questions about himself, get to know him, but wasn't sure when that would happen now.

"London? Yeah, I've been to London." She didn't really want to go back there, but the TARDIS didn't seem to be giving them much of a choice. "I used to live there!"

It was one of the many places she had lived with her father when he was in the military. They had spent about seven months there before they were uplifted and moved once again. London was nice enough. She loved Big Ben and loved the shopping there, but the people weren't much different there from Scotland. Maybe not as nice.

The TARDIS acted is if they had collided with something, which caused the doctor to fly across to where Hadley had been standing, his head hitting her shoulder with an extreme amount of force.

"Owwwww!"

He lowered his head then, chancing a moment to rub it softly while the TARDIS seemed to be going easier since the previous rumble.

"You used to live there eh? It's a decent place. People can be rude."

The man thought back to a time when he had landed there and an elderly woman hit him with her handbag for accidentally stepping within a foot of her.

"Or maybe it's just old people in general who are rude."

He shook his head and looked around happily when he realized they had landed somewhere. He sighed, content to not be spinning for the moment.

"Ah... Finally. If you don't mind, I'd like to take a small breather."

Hadley rubbed at her shoulder where the Doctor's head had hit it. She hadn't expected him to come flying towards her. She couldn't help but laugh at him comment about old people, though. She realized that the elderly were hardly ever very nice. Once in a while you find that sweet old lady, but usually it's all a farce.

"I don't mind the breather at all, Doctor." She grinned at him flirtatiously, but subtly so.

She remembered that he had called her his lovely girl. She wondered if he'd even realized he said it. Or if it would matter if he did. She brushed it off, not wanting to put too much thought into it. She was sad that they were missing out on the beautiful planet they had just left, but the TARDIS had brought them there for a reason. She was sure of that.

The doctor grinned up at her, a quick flash of his teeth, and then went back to panting and leaning on his knees. After a few more deep breaths, he stood, shaking out his exhaustion, and then headed to the door of the TARDIS.

"Well now, I suppose we had better figure out why we are here, hm?"

He smiled back at her softly, barely looking over his shoulder. When he stepped out onto the street, he noticed they were alongside a giant tan building. It looked like a shop to him.

"Something doesn't seem right here..."

He wrinkled his nose and reached inside his breast pocket, pulling out a metal device, much resembling a pen with a bright blue tip. He flashed it back at her, showing her what he had in his hand.

"This, Hadley, is my sonic screw driver. Never go anywhere without it."

He hit the blue tip atop his head and then pressed the side of the device, making that very tip glow even brighter, scanning the area. When he had scanned a few feet of the building, he brought the screw driver back to his face and read something that was on the side of it.

"Ah. Just what I thought. Readings of alien life. From the looks of it, Autons. We have to go. We need to find them. Come on!"

He grabbed her shoulder gently and led her into a back entrance of the large building, knowing that they were more than likely in a storage area.

Hadley loved every new thing she learned about the Doctor. All of this was just so crazy. That thing he held, which looked nothing like a screwdriver, somehow let him know that there was alien life nearby. She only hoped these Autons were less scary looking than the Ogrons had been. They probably wouldn't be, though, knowing her luck. She let the Doctor lead the way into the building, wondering what was waiting for them.

She grabbed onto the Doctor's arm, not wanting him to get too far ahead of her and her end up alone with some more aliens that would probably kill her if they got the chance. She wasn't sure how far into the building they would have to go and she could feel her heart beating heavily in her chest.

"What's an Auton?" She whispered quietly, knowing he'd even have to strain to hear her. She didn't want to risk them being caught.

The doctor looked back at the hand that had a hold of his arm and gently smiled at it. He wasn't entirely sure, but he thought he felt a bit of warmth when she touched him. He thought quizically to himself for a moment, wondering why that could be, and then immediately brushed it off when she whispered quieter than he thought humanly possible. He was lucky to have excellent hearing, and he prided himself in that during the moment.

"An Auton is a plastic being, very dangerous, very mean. Do not let them touch you. They can take on any form of plastic, just as long as it is plastic. So, be careful."

He shot her a warning look, desperate for her to comprehend. Though, he was quite certain that was all the explaining he would need to do for her.

They rounded a corner and he heard some movement. He stopped abruptly, placing his hand protectively on Hadley's stomach.

"Shh... I think they are here..."

He listened intently, trying to make out anything. When he couldn't, he took his screwdriver back in hand and scanned the area quickly. The readings came back strong and he huffed quietly, frustrated that he had to deal with these monsters today.

"I have the feeling they're targeting someone. Whoever that is, we need to find them. Come."

His last word was somewhat cheery again, even he could tell this time. He wondered to himself why he insisted on keeping this tone. Then realized it was for his own sanity.

Hadley tried to keep her breathing even. She didn't want to show how scared she truly was of whatever was waiting for them. The Doctor's touch was comforting though, and she held on to that the best that she could. She only hoped that whoever was in the building, whoever the Autons were after, that they were alright and that the Doctor and her would find them in time to save them from these plastic enemies.

"I'm right behind you, Doctor." She let him lead the way, scared that at any moment one of these things would jump out at them.

Seems we know how to get in trouble, that's for sure.

Chadwick was moving around the shop, replacing strewn about articles of clothing in their designated stations, eyeing the clock every chance that he got. He had two hours before his shift was ended, and then he would have to hop on public transport to get to his flat on the other side of London. He sighed, realizing he was running his fingers along the fabric of the sweater in his hands.

The assistant manager of the shop told him to run down to the storage to find Eran who would help him bring up the new shipment of shoes. He nodded in compliance and headed to the lift that would take him down to the bottom floor of the building. He absolutely hated that section of the place. It was dark, and eerie looking. It reminded him of a badly written horror film.

He reached the floor he needed to be on and exited the lift, immediately being surrounded by racks of clothing and petrified mannequins here and there. Several unopened boxes lay around the area, but nowhere in sight was this Eran his manager had spoken of.

"Go figure she would send me on a wild hunt for someone that didn't exist."

He ran his fingers through his deep red hair, looking about anyway for any sign of another human being. Several feet away from him, he heard a bit of movement which perked his spirits a bit.

"Eran? Is that you?"

He walked a bit further, hoping to catch a glimpse of the man.

"Eran, Regina sent me. Something about a shipment of shoes that she wanted brought up to the shop now."

He looked around, scanning the area and seeing nothing but mannequins. From inches behind him there was another sound and more movement. He quickly turned about to see a mannequin slowly coming at him.

"Ha ha, very funny. It's time to stop mucking about though, we have work to do, come on."

When there was no response, just more walking towards him, he began to feel a bit uneasy.

"I'm not joshing you, Eran, we have to go. Regina's going to be boiling."

The doctor heard some sounds up ahead, and it peaked his curiosity higher. He was sure it was the Auton making a move. When he heard a man speaking at something that had been moving towards him, he was certain his assumption was correct.

"That's our cue, girl. Time to save a life!"

He began to run, making sure he didn't let go of Hadley's hand. When they were approaching the scene of the man and mannequin, he brought himself and the girl to a light jog, making little noise as they neared the two figures.

Just as the mannequin was about to grab onto the red haired man, the doctor threw out his hand and grabbed onto his arm tightly.

"Hello there! Time to run!"

Hadley made sure to never let go of the Doctor's hand while they ran away from the Autons. She wasn't sure why they were after the kid in the basement, but he was lucky they were there to help him. She didn't want to think of what would have happened if the TARDIS hadn't brought them there in time to stop the mannequins. She inwardly shuddered, knowing they were probably being followed by them.

"Back to the TARDIS?" She asked, turning a corner, hoping that the new guy was keeping up.

Are we all going to become one big, happy, traveling family?

When the man had grabbed onto his arm, Chadwick couldn't begin to understand what was going on. When the three of them had started running far down the corridor, he wondered why they were running from the guy that was after them. They all stopped for a moment, panting and the woman asked something about a TARDIS.

"A what? Why are we running? Who are you people?"

He looked from the man to the woman, and couldn't help but furrow his brows in confusion.

What was a gorgeous girl like her doing with a funny looking bloke like him?

The doctor turned to the man looking at them strangely and smiled, a quick flash of teeth. He pointed at himself, poking himself in the chest.

"The Doctor," he then poked Hadley in the chest, "Hadley. We're here to save you. No time to explain."

He grabbed both of their arms and began to run back towards the TARDIS.

He said between heavy breaths, "And yes! Back to the TARDIS!"

They were now about to exit the building and be back into the streets, very near to where the TARDIS was parked. He thought to himself that it would be smart to simply leave this place and the kid would still be safe. But he knew better than that. He would have to stay and get rid of these Autons, or they would just make a mess of the place, killing hundreds or maybe even thousands. He shuddered at the thought.

Once they reached the TARDIS, the doctor ushered the two inside before closing the door behind himself, leaning up against it to catch his breath.

"Well now... That was fun!"

Hadley realized more and more as the moments passed that she adored everything about the Doctor. His funny personality, the quirky things he said, the fact that he seemed to love the danger, and his smile. He was the friend, companion, or whatever he was to be to her that she was meant to find. She had been searching for acceptance for so long, and she assumed she would never find it, but she knew that wasn't true anymore. The Doctor would accept her, that much she had already discovered, and he wanted her around.

"You never gave us your name." She looked over at Chadwick and smiled. "Sorry to just burst in and scare you like that, but I think you'd rather be scared then dead."

She hoped she didn't sound too insensitive, but she knew for a fact that she was thankful the Doctor had saved her life just hours before.

"So Doctor, we running from these ones or do you plan to fight them?" She knew that knowing him they would fight, because he just seemed the type to go out and save the world...worlds...

This is spectacular!

The things these two were saying weren't making any sense at all to him. He stod there, out of breath and barely able to think, let alone speak. He tried to gather his thoughts, to bring words from his mind and out of his mouth. But nothing was coming. His name. That much he knew. That much he could handle saying.

"Chadwick. My name's Chadwick..."

His eyes widened as he realized that the girl had said something about fighting those things. He didn't even know what those things were.

"I don't understand what's going on..."

His head turned and looked at the man who called himself Chadwick. It was only then did he realize that there was something off about him. His hair was such a deep red, and his eyes matched them. There was no way this was humanly accurate. He examined him closer, stepping just inches from his face. He sniffed.

"You're not all human yourself, mate."

The doctor brought out his sonic screwdriver and scanned the man's body. The readings that came back made a chill run down his spine. He turned to Hadley, ready to answer her question.

"Fight, yes. What else would we do? I like the way you think."

He winked at her, trying to come up with a plan as quickly as he could.

Hadley felt her heart leap from her chest when the Doctor winked at her. She knew her embarrassment and the adoration she was feeling was probably written on her face, but she figured she wouldn't be able to hide it if she tried.

Did he have any clue the effect he had on women? Or maybe he didn't have this effect on other women. Maybe she was just crazy and pined after a two hearted alien time traveler. She smiled to herself and then looked over at Chadwick. The Doctor had said he wasn't entirely human. What was that supposed to mean?

"Nice to meet you, Chadwick." She looked over at the Doctor. "Should we explain to him what's going on before we head back out there again?"

She didn't want to leave Chadwick scared and unsure of everything. She could remember how scared she was running from the Ogrons, having no idea what they were and why they wanted her dead.
